3D TVs Still Selling in Large Numbers

September 25th, 2013 · No Comments · 3D Content, Newsflash

According to Futuresource Consulting, 60 million 3D TVs are expected to be sold in 2013. But where is all the content?

That’s a rhetorical question. Content can be found easily online. 3D Blu-rays for hundreds of titles are available, some less expensive than others. And streaming 3D movie rentals are available on smart TV apps like Vudu and 3DGO!

But it’s still odd, at least to some of us, that broadcasters like ESPN and the BBC decided to pull the plug on their 3D broadcasts earlier this year. Especially since the number of 3D TVs sold by 2017 is expected to exceed 157 million units, globally.

While we seem to discuss this issue at some length, the bottom line is that the future of 3D broadcasts is uncertain. 3D may wind up being reduced to paid-premium content.
