3D Film Takes Us to First Everest Expedition

May 21st, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

beyond_the_edge_movie

Beyond the Edge 3D is a new thriller being produced by the Avatar crew re-creating Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s 1953 ascent of Mount Everest.

The film intends to portray a recreation of the original expedition with old photographs and merge that with new 3D footage by the same method used to convert Titanic into 3D.

The film crew has actually been shooting on Everest. They’re said to have an emergency helicopter on site at all times because the weather can change on the mountain in a snap. Other footage is being taken in the New Zealand Alps, where many Everest climbers train for the big one.

The remarkable thing about the 1953 expedition is that these men didn’t have the gear that people have today. We already think this movie is going to be good.

Third Gen Xbox Revealed Tonight

May 21st, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

xbox_logo

It seems like it just wouldn’t be right if Sony were to release the new PlayStation 4 this year without any competition from the other guys.

That being said, Microsoft Xbox is holding a reveal event later today for the new Xbox. Both are speculated to release within one week of each other during the holiday season. Get ready for another grueling Black Friday on November 29.

Reports of rumors have been published about the Xbox that it may be backwards compatible with the Xbox 360 games. It may also feature digital recording software.

But the coolest rumor we believe is the one about the special 3D glasses that may come with the machine, integrating not only 3D, but augmented reality stuff like mixing game with the real world.

Uganda Sees Country’s First 3D Theater

May 21st, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

magic_cinema

That’s right, the African country of Uganda now has a 3D cinema, located at the Metroplex Shopping centre in Naalya, said to be along the Northern by-pass.

While most of us have probably never visited Uganda, this article serves to show the widespread effect of 3D movies growing in popularity.

Our source says that he observed “female patrons that were seated in the front rows diving for their lives in fear while clutching at one another,” during a screening of Iron Man 3. He even goes so far as to put the word “scary” in the title of the article.

We grin and take that as endearing. Is there a better thing than a film holding you in an emotional grip?

NY’s North Brother Island in 3D

May 21st, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

northbrother_map

An article released today offers a peak at two explorers of New York’s abandoned North Brother Island’s 3D photo ebook.

North Brother Island: A History in 3D is available for $99 cents on the iPad. It features 65 3D photos of the island’s mysterious decrepit hospital and piers.

The ebook was created by husband and wife Matthew Schlanger and Laurie Needell, residents of Nyack, N.Y. It sounds like Schlanger and Needell may have sailed to North Brother Island with permission from the Parks department.

They brought with them a 3D camera. Schlanger took the photos and Needell wrote a history of the island, which used to house lepers and other quarantined people. The photos may be viewed as wiggle stereoscopy (particularly creepy-looking), anaglyphic, or static 2D.

Ford’s CAVE Research Center Features 3D Simulator

May 21st, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

Car company Ford has gotten a lot smarter when it comes to research and development, due to modern virtual reality technology.

A source was recently allowed a tour of the CAVE workspace in Cologne, Germany and showed pictures and shared some pretty cool insight into the way it works. Basically, there’s a room featuring a “dummy” car seat where the user sits holding two Wii controllers and wearing polarizing glasses. Around them on three walls are VR images of, say, a town to drive around in.

You may also see the interior of the car on screen. This allows ford with the click of a button sometimes to make changes to features on whatever car model they’re working with. What it eliminates are the old days of higher production costs and time for testing new ideas for car features.

The facility is also equipped with 3D printers that can manufacture new parts rather easily, as well.

More on X-Men: Days of Future Past

May 20th, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

xmen_poster

Actress Ellen Page recently shared more about the latest X-Men movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past. She told sources that she will once again play the part of Kitty Pryde in the film.

In past X-Men movies, the character of Kitty Pryde, which is often misspelled “Pride,” was also played by actresses Sumela Kay and Katie Stuart. Their roles as Pryde were much smaller.

The character of Kitty Pryde possesses a strong mutation that allows her to make herself and other people and things around her intangible. She also levitates. We haven’t read the comic-story yet, but it will involve cuts to the past that allow for bridging the gap between the first X-Men films and the last one.

Page said that working with director Bryan Singer on the 3D project is great. Singer is shooting the film in native 3D on Avatar’s Simulcam, which actually allows the director to see the film with some CGI in real-time while shooting.

New S-Class Also Features Perfume Atomizer

May 20th, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

mercedes_logo

The S-Class from Mercedes-Benz will feature 3D cameras. That we knew.

It is now being said that it will feature night vision, LED lamps, some sort of radar system making the car virtually able to drive itself around, and a perfume atomizer.

While the perfume atomizer is apparently a feature to make the car smell nicer, we thought it would have been funnier if reversed. Like next time the car could feature a perfume diffuser. You know, in case your mother-in-law is coming on kind of strong with her fragrance when you pick her up for dinner on the weekends.

It’s been mentioned that back in the day, it was the wood paneling and leather seats that everyone was impressed by. Nowadays, the Mercedes sedan has so many neat features that the older features get overlooked.

Excitement Builds over New 3D Mario Game

May 20th, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

3D_Mario

It was announced in late January at a Nintendo Direct presentation that Nintendo planned on releasing a new 3D Mario game for the Wii.

However, it is unclear at this time if the game will feature 3D glasses and the whole bit, or if they just mean Mario will be running around in a 3D environment (as opposed to the old 8-bit do-do-do-do-do-do doot side scrolling awesome format).

Since Nintendo announced that Mario 3D would be playable at the 2013 E3 conference, held June 11-13 we expect to hear more about this soon.

The 3D Mario game is produced by Nintendo EAD Tokyo. They are also responsible for Mario Galaxy, Mario Galaxy 2, and Super Mario 3D Land.

Epic 3D May Inspire Better Housekeeping

May 20th, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

epic_poster

Or at least that’s what one critic jokes. The new animated 3D film has already been reviewed in Britain, and the film sounds like a winner with a good cast.

Epic 3D stars the voices of the voices of Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Christoph Waltz, Beyonce Knowles, Steven Tyler, Aziz Ansari, Chris O’Dowd, Pitbull, and Jason Sudeikis.

Directed by Chris Wedge, perhaps best known for his work on the Ice Age movie franchise, Epic is the story about good vs. evil in the form of unseeable forces protecting and trying to destroy Mother Nature. The bad guys are said to be “armed to the teeth in mold.”

Thus, we gather cleaning up a bit is the key for being good to Mother Nature. The word about the film is that it has a Honey, I Shrunk the Kids reminiscence, with some fun flying and swooping 3D effects.

Dekko Headset Worth Getting Excited About

May 18th, 2013 · 3D Content, Newsflash

dekko_logo

With the introduction of the virtual reality (VR) headset, the Oculus Rift, this month there’s been much talk and anticipation about VR in our near future.

But while plenty people are talking about mainly good VR gaming, one company is talking about augmented reality using smartphones and integrating it into our daily (practical) lives.

We just learned that Dekko has secured a $3.2 million dollar push to create what appears to be a lightweight headset that interacts with our real environment via apps.

So it can direct you around, using your maps app. You can communicate on social networking sites like Twitter and Instagram using your gaze. Stuff like that. It’s in development. But very cool.
