The latest in the growing genre of hip-hop dance flicks is called Battle of the Year 3D. Featuring controversial star Chris Brown, this film has its ups and downs.
And we don’t mean that solely in the sense that the b-boy dance moves are said to have audiences dancing in their seats. The film, while showcasing talented actors and dancers is said to fall victim to more than one Hollywood cliché.
As for the premise, the flipping and twirling style of dance was invented in the U.S., but sadly the U.S. team hasn’t won in the international competition held in France for 15 years. Here’s where the film is being called out as a typical come-from-behind movie. Add to that a down-and-out coach who is chosen to lead the U.S. Dream Team.
You see where we’re going with this. The film opens today. The 3D dancing is however being lauded as quite a redeeming quality.
