Upcoming 3D HDTVs-An Interview with Mitsubishi's David Naranjo

E-mail Print

Mitsubishi's Director  of Product Development, David Naranjo agreed to answer questions relating to its debut of its 3D HDTVs at the upcoming 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.

Q: HD Guru 3D - David welcome to HDGURU3D. Will Mitsubishi be showing 2010 Full 1920x1080 HD 3D  (FHD3D) LCD flat panels and rear projectors at CES?  If so, what can you tell us about them.

A:  We have been manufacturing and selling large screen and affordable 3D Ready TVs since 2007. At the 2010 CES, Mitsubishi will be highlighting our 2009 product which will be compatible with the new 3D standard, as well as future products.

One other important note. Did your readers know that the technology that is used for 3D DLP Cinema where consumers can enjoy a large screen 3D experience, is the same DLP technology that Mitsubishi is using in their current 3D Ready TVs?

Q: Panasonic, Sony and others will be introducing their first 3D HDTVs. What generation 3D HDTVs set will Mitsubishi be showing and how many 3D HDTVs has Mitsubishi previously produced?

A: Unlike our competitors who have only recently focused on 3D, Mitsubishi has been showing 3D content (games, movies, live events) on our 3D Ready TVs since 2007, our first public display of this technology was in August 2007 during a PGA event in NY.  We continued to show 3D at various industry events since 2007. Mitsubishi is about to demonstrate 4th generation of 3D Ready TVs!  We have already produced over 1.5 million 3D ready HDTVs. We have strong relationships with all stakeholders in the 3D ecosystem!

Q: Can you tell us anything about the  2010 line of LCDs and DLPs at this time, such as screen size ranges, LED backlights for LCD etc.?

A: At this time I can only comment we will have a full line of 3D 2010 products.

Q:  The HD Guru recently tested the 3D performance of your 2009 82" RPTV, and it looked fantastic, although we were limited to PC based  content not available to the public and a selection of 3D PC games. Will the 1.5 million 3D DLP TVs already produced be upgradeable to display 3D content from Blu-ray players and eventually  3D broadcast, cable or satellite content or  will the owners be confined to PC games or faced with buying a new 3D display. Please elaborate.

A: Mitsubishi believes that a 3D experience at home is best experienced with a large screen TV at an affordable price. The 82" is the largest commercially available 3D ready TV at a price of less than $5,000.  Mitsubishi will provide solutions to consumers that have purchased these TVs.  Further details will be provided during CES.

David, On behalf of HDGURU3D and our readers we like to wish you Season Greetings and a Happy New Year. We look forward to seeing your latest 3D HDTVs and reporting about them in early January.
