Amtram, the Taiwanese company that JVC has licensed to make for their brand name, has introduced a new flagship 3DTV, the 55-inch JLE55SP4000 Smart LED 3D HDTV. What is different about the set is the new XinemaSound 3D technology that promises to deliver a big sound experience from a thin (1/2-inch thick) flat panel TV. All this can be obtained for an attractive $1,299 price point.

The new sound system address a weakness with most flat panel TVs – poor sound quality because of the lack of cabinets and volume typically used to create a quality sound experience. Usually, consumers add sound bars or separate surround sound systems to achieve better sound quality.

JVC says their XinemaSound 3D technology can create a sonic experience that is much better than what’s currently available on most competitive flat-panel TVs – and consumers’s won’t have to buy additional sooundbars or home theater in a box systems.

CES surveys suggest that soundbars will be one of the most sought after products this Holiday season, so maybe JVC is onto something with their focus on sound.

The XinemaSound 3D does sound quite intriguing. For example, it includes two 15-watt speakers, a powered subwoofer with an additional 15-watt amp, plus JVC’s proprietary acoustic and post-processing technologies. Other XinemaSound 3D features include crosstalk cancelling technology, Psychoacoustic Bass Extension, and proprietary remixing technology that involves applying an Equal-Loudness Contour to the sound. Also very important is the XinemaSound 3D Clear Dialog processing, which can adjust the dynamic range of movies and commercials to even out the loudness of various pieces of content and allow the dialog to rise above other sound effects, which can often dominate and obscure the dialog.

The TV is also a 3DTV set offering a patterned retarder for passive 3D viewing with polarized glasses. Other features include 120Hx refresh rate, 20M:1 dynamic contrast ratio and edge-lit LED backlight. The remote also comes with a full QWERTY key board for easier navigation of applications and the Internet via a built-in WiFi 802.11n . There are the usual apps like Netflix, YouTube, Vudu and Pandora.

The set is also billed as the first TV to feature a built-in Slingmedia app, which is an app for EchoStar’s Slingbox unit that streams content to the TV screen from a Slingbox device connected to an entertainment system in another room or even another location.

“The JLE55SP4000 delivers sound that is a cut above HDTVs at any price, let alone those at such an affordable price point,” said Drew Pragliola, AmTran Video sales and marketing VP. “The typical HDTV’s sonic output is weak, so we set out to change the landscape with this model. It’s a high performance HDTV selling for an everyday price.”

Besides the 55-incher, JVC also plans to put the XinemaSound feature into two smaller models in their Emerald Series, the 32-inch EM32T and 37-inch EM37T, each of which will have just the two speakers and no subwoofer. JVC hasn’t said anything about availability on those TVs, but the 37-inch EM37T is tentatively priced at $379.99, with the 32-inch EM32T expected to ship with an MSRP of $269.99.
