NBC and Panasonic Partner to Bring You The London Olympics In 3D

NBC Olympics and Panasonic Corporation of North America announced details today about the first 3D Olympic Games. The programming will be available to nearly 80 percent of US households via cable, satellite and telco providers. 3D Coverage will exceed 240 hours including the opening and closing ceremonies.

The 3D programming will be shown with a 1-day delay to subscribers of the following systems beginning on July 28, 2012:

Armstrong, AT&T, Blue Ridge, Bright House Networks, Cablevision, Comcast, Cox Communications, DIRECTV, Insight, Mediacom, RCN, Suddenlink, Time Warner Cable, Verizon, and  WideOpen West.

Dish Network is not carrying any of the 3D Olympic coverage, according to its spokesperson.

NBC will provide 12 hours of US-oriented 3D programming each day, introduced by Bob Costas and featuring highlights from the previous day’s events and the best moments of the games to date. Some of the events to be covered in 3D include:

Opening and Closing Ceremonies

Men’s and Women’s gymnastics

Extensive coverage from the Aquatic Center, including diving and swimming

Bicycle racing from the Velodrome

Full coverage of track and field from the Olympic Stadium

Panasonic is providing the twin-lens Full HD 3D cameras, recorders and production equipment and is the exclusive NBC Olympics Flat-Panel HDTV and Blu-ray Disc player advertiser for the London Olympic Games.
