While we haven’t had the opportunity to view the new movie OZ: The Great and Powerful, officially released tomorrow, some have. And they love it, seemingly with good reasoning.
With an all-star cast including James Franco (127 Hours) and Mila Kunis (Black Swan), it just feels right. After all, 2012’s Prometheus, the prequel to the Alien franchise, was fantastic in 3D! This film is of course a prequel to the classic film The Wizard of Oz (1939).
Prequels seem to be on a roll is all we’re saying.
But one reviewer has expressed their dismay with recent 3D blockbusters, calling some gimmicky and something of a consolation prize for a bad movie. The same reviewer elaborates that OZ seems to understand the nature of 3D better than the rest, and they incorporate it into the artistry of the film. We’re excited!
