Typical movie theater screens are not white. They’re silver. However, when it comes to viewing a 3D movie in the theater, the brighter the images are displayed, the better.
At least, that’s what the creators of the Precision White Screen technology discovered when they made their screen edges 4-5 times brighter than a standard silver screen. The result is 40 percent more total light coming off the screen. It’s good for 2D experiences, as well.
President of Worldwide Cinema at RealD Joe Peixoto said the new screen technology creates a broader distribution of light for wider viewing angles. Currently the screen is the centerpiece at MuviXL in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Next, the technology is moving to Chicago and South Florida.
