You may not know him by name, but you probably know Douglas Trumbull through his special effects works on some of the most famous sci-fi films in history.

Trumbull, who’s worked on 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and Blade Runner is now hunting real UFO’s in 3D 4K. His short film, Ufotog, may be shown in Los Angeles in August.

Moreover, Trumbull invented the high frame rate cinema format (70mm – 60fps). His new films are actually being shot in 120fps, and he is someone who is pushing the envelope for a better cinema experience.

We’re not sure where Ufotog will go from here. The online video suggests perhaps a new TV show where Trumbull and a crew hunt for UFO’s in an old Military Humvee. He is also working on a separate sci-fi project, a film that is set 200 years into the future.
