We thought it was a little misleading when TV makers began calling their TVs “smart” since, compared to Android and iOS devices, the whole smart factor of most TVs seemed limited.

But sure, the new TVs have apps. They’re at least kind of “smart.”

However, the segment is growing. And the Android operating system appears to be leading the way. We recently wrote about Xiaomi, the Chinese TV maker who is releasing an Android-based 3D TV. Today we read about Kogan, an Australian maker that is also featuring an Android interface.

The latest is that Sony is releasing an Android dongle for its existing Bravia TVs. You may plug the dongle directly into the MHL or HDMI input of your TV, and boom! You now have a smart interface with apps like Netflix, YouTube, and growing possibilities with the Google Play store. The future is nigh.
